The CTA Professional Conversion Programme, developed by the Institute of Chartered Tax Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICTAZ), is a specialised professional bridging programme designed to transition legacy tax qualifications into the modern competency-based Chartered Tax Accountant (CTA) framework. As Zimbabwe’s tax environment evolves toward greater complexity, digitisation, and global alignment, this programme equips candidates with the advanced knowledge, practical skills, and ethical foundation required of today’s tax professionals.
Targeted at holders of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Applied Taxation (old curriculum), as well as ICTAZ Associates, Fellows, and current students, the programme provides a structured pathway for upgrading historical qualifications to meet contemporary professional standards. It ensures that previously qualified practitioners remain competitive, compliant, and aligned with the new CTA competency model.
Delivered over an intensive six-week period and culminating in a single, comprehensive remote-proctored qualifying examination, the programme assesses proficiency across nine interdisciplinary courses.
These span statutory interpretation, customs and excise, estate administration, tax advocacy, dispute resolution, tax technology, risk management, behavioural taxation, and sustainable tax practices. Together, these courses reflect the multidimensional nature of modern tax work, where legal insight, technological fluency, governance, and human behavioural understanding must integrate seamlessly.
Learners develop advanced capabilities in legislative analysis, advisory professionalism, digital tax tools, corporate governance, dispute resolution, and ethical practice. Central to the programme is a strong emphasis on professional integrity, accountability, and client-centred practice, ensuring that graduates not only meet technical standards but also embody the ethical expectations of the CTA designation.
By bridging legacy qualifications with contemporary tax competencies, the CTA Professional Conversion Programme empowers practitioners to remain relevant and future-ready, positioning them for leadership roles in public practice, corporate tax departments, government, and advisory services. It is a transformative step toward strengthening the capacity, credibility, and global alignment of Zimbabwe’s tax profession.
